EA accurately portrays The Cult

EA president makes some accurate statements about the hardcore which he hilariously refers to as The Cult.

“And you sort of feel a little bit like a twit getting out ahead of it because there’s a certain cadre of journalists that would love to prove me wrong.”

Oh, I know the feeling. They are trying to desperately prove that Nintendo is not performing ‘disruption’. Why? Since I didn’t come from The Cult, they don’t want anyone to gain any traction with readers. But I think it is more that they don’t like it when someone says something smart, and it isn’t them. This is true with journalists everywhere, they are the smartest people in the world and hover above us mortals like angels. If you want proof, give them suggestions on what you would like to see, and they will immediately start calling you an idiot. Journalism is the only industry I know that openly insults its audience. It is far worse in the ‘Core’ journalism market as with newspapers.

“EA doesn’t usually get the benefit of the cult – ‘everybody has to rate it a hundred’ thing going on – that happens sometimes even when they may not, based on the review, have played more than the first fifteen minutes of the game. But that’s a separate issue.”

God, that quote is GOLD! He nails the hardcore.

Naturally, Kotaku goes bonkers over this.
