There is a CrispyGamer article called: “Top Ten People Who Need to STFU This E3“. At first glance, it would be easy to just say this is hardcore angst or just undirected hatred.
There is some real anger there. But I suspect it has more to do with the game journalist’s job. Many of these guys feel like tools. We, gamers, get pissed off when a hyped up game ends up being lame. But game journalists not only have to write about the hype, they have to keep going to the hype events. I think the anger directed at many of the people listed is more of frustration that the game journalist job must have them write about whatever they say. Since people like Will Wright, who talked much about Spore even though Spore didn’t live up to the hype, has tired game journalists who don’t want to write any of his hype anymore.
Poor Dunaway. If E3 2008 had games the core wanted, I don’t think they would be tarring and feather Dunaway.
The Iwata part was just silly. Iwata needs to talk more, not less.
This frustration with hype from the game journalist shows that it is time for this industry to change.
