It is pointless to post comments from other forums or sites because there are crazies everywhere and of every stripe. But some things just baffle me. For example, the comments declaring NSMB Wii to be a ‘non-game’ and Nintendo being ‘hostile’ for making this ‘non-game’ to ‘end gaming’. And we were talking about innocent 2d Mario here!
I can understand people hating the Wii. But I can’t understand statements like this:
I can’t explain to you or the other people in here why I continue because I don’t think you will be able to relate and therefore understand.
I love Nintendo and I don’t just mean that in the way everyone throws that word around.
Nintendo, and playing games like SMW, changed my life in ways you probably won’t ever understand.
Nintendo is like a surrogate parent to me.
Nintendo means something to me.
It means more to me than it does to most of the stupid fanboy idiots in here without a shadow of a doubt.
I didn’t just play a few Nintendo games and decide I liked them.
I didn’t just grow up playing Nintendo and so that’s why I love them.
Nintendo products literally changed the course of my life because of the influence they had on me.
My passion for games, created by Nintendo, is what drove me to get out of foster care and go to uni and eventually work in games.
I can’t just move onto something else like it doesn’t really matter because it actually means something meaningful to me.
Despite all the disappointment I have experienced with Wii I am unable to just walk away because I still love Nintendo and I still have hope.
That’s why I come in here every day and moan about it and complain because every day they break my heart just a little bit more.
I love Nintendo but I’m not so blind as to not see when their frikin controller doesn’t work proplerly (and you all know what I mean by that)!

Apparently, no one knew what he meant by that. He goes on:
Why do you believe it is impossible for me to know anything at all about the quality of the M+ control experience just because I have not played it first hand?
That actually goes to all of you?
In all seriousness please explain why you think it is impossible for me to know anything at all about the quality of the M+ control experience just because I have not played it first hand?
I really would like to know how you guys have come to that conclusion without knowing anything about me and without having ever met or experienced anything to do with me first hand…
Also, I never said it wasn’t a good product. I just said it has some issues and that it is simply not good enough (which is of course subjective because you might love it).

The last couple of lines is very revealing. In disruptive literature, just because there is a ‘Core’ and ‘Expanded’ market doesn’t mean there are ‘Core’ and ‘Expanded’ users. Christensen actually defines three types of customers (which will be elaborated on in the next article). One of these customers is the ‘Undershot Consumer’. This is what this guy is saying.
Of course, I don’t know how he knows it isn’t good enough if he hasn’t tried it. But the hardcore are a mystery unto themselves.
