Iwata takes 50% price cut for blame of 3DS

From David Gibson’s twitter we read:

Iwata taking responsibility for 3ds,, taking 50% salary cut and other execs 30% cut, reduced bonuses too

This is symbolism over substance. What is the plan?

Aim to recover trust by 3ds recovery, no slides or presentation

But the plan? What is it?

Aim is to combine social and real networks, synergise and maximise, aiming for new software this fy and next

More cliches! Oh boy!

Clearly, no console has ever ‘synergized’ before or tried to combine ‘social and real networks’. Oh no!

You know, I want to make this blog more popular. I think I’ll start ‘synergizing’ over here, and then I’ll try to combine ‘social and real networks’. Yeah!

Every time I utter cliches like the above, I just burst out laughing.

A reader asks, “What do you suggest for the 3DS?” The answer is in the posts before this one. Customers are rebelling against Nintendo’s philosophy.

You know what I find interesting? During the salad days of DS and Wii, the hardcore ‘complained’ so Nintendo swiftly began making games for them. But now during the bad days of the 3DS, do you see Nintendo changing to make games that I want to play? No!!!!!! Instead, it is more ‘surprise’. More ‘integrated hardware and software’. That would mean ‘arcade’, but somehow Nintendo tries to find any answer other than arcade.

Plan very soon to announce strategy for combination of digital and packaged and synergy between the two

Synergy! Oh boy! My favorite word!

Digital is where we are yet to expand and where we are aiming for, been doing trial and error so far

Does this feel like the future you want from Nintendo, reader? The issue is not how Nintendo does its games, it is the why Nintendo does its games. The ‘why’ behind Nintendo games is ‘creativity’ and ‘goofy hardware’. The ‘why’ used to be ‘arcade experience at home’, e.g. “Now you’re playing with… power!’

Wiiu is not limited to tv, is multiscreen and believe it is dramatic change from wii, believe tvs will be online and connect to smartphones

We don’t WANT a ‘dramatic change’ from the Wii. I liked the Wii. It is why I bought it. I want a console more like the Wii than a departure from it. The Wii U is a Gamecube with a DS hat. They should rename the Wii U to be ‘DS: TV Version’.

From 3DS to Wii U, I do not see any thinking outside the paradigm of the DS.

For gamecube missed pric cut opportunity and this influenced 3ds decision to cut price, cash balance enables decision to cut price

So if the Gamecube’s price was cut sooner, it would have been a success? Iwata is clueless.

Business is shifting towards 3rd party reliance, want to strengthen

This means, “We don’t want to make games Malstrom likes. We want to keep making ‘creativity’ software and playing with 3d! So we need third parties to sell our console so we can keep making first party software few people want to buy.”
