…that Nintendo probably thought the Super Mario 25th Anniversary game sold because of the music CD?
Well, you were right.
Seems like Nintendo thinks that all they need to sell Skyward Sword is a Wii Remote Plus and a music CD. Too bad the game won’t make any effective use of them.
I’m honestly starting to wonder if Zelda can ever capture the feel of the 2D adventures in 3D. How would you do a 3D Zelda Malstrom?
I bet the music CD is a collection of Aonuma’s favorites.
Why would a 3d Zelda be any different than a 2d Zelda? It would still be the ‘best worlds’ concept of arcade and computer RPG.
I would start with molding the gameplay skeleton for the arcade elements. How should combat work? Clearly, it cannot work like in Ocarina of Time with fighting one person at a time. I would start off with a much simpler combat system like Zelda 1 and see how it works. Game development isn’t about theorycrafting so much as making a prototype and going from there.
The biggest problem would be controlling the camera.
The RPG elements would be very easy to realize since they have been done so much lately.
I object to your premise that 3d Zelda would be different from 2d Zelda. Legend of Zelda has always been three dimensional. A 3d Zelda would just allow the player to move the camera around. A 3d Zelda should be able to be played from the overhead (or in First Person perspective). It depends on how the player wants to play. Imagine the original Legend of Zelda where you can move the camera around. There you go.
