In that episode, Frasier is asked to make a theme song for his radio show. He’s a psychiatrist, not a musician or songwriter. But because he can play music, and knows a lot about classical music, he thinks he can make the best possible theme song for his show. The result is something overblown, overproduced, and fails as both a musical piece and a theme song. It even has people playing a single note from particular instruments to “represent” the mental disorders as the announcer reads them off.

This isn’t a bad analogy. It certainly puts Metroid: Other M into context.Let me try the analogy. It seems as if they are taking their games too personally.Imagine being a young man in front of a beautiful, young lady. Like many of us, I’m sure you did stupid things. One thing, I am certain you did, was that you tried to impress her. You talked up your life, about how amazing you were, blah blah blah. Yet, the beautiful, young lady was not interested. The guy is crushed. He took her response extremely personally.
The reason why the young man was not interesting to the beautiful, voluptuous (and do I ever mean voluptuous) young woman was because the young man was not interested in her. This is what women call ‘trying too hard’. The guy ends up coming across as a jester and women dismiss him. Interesting people do not have to impress people. They are a magnet in themselves and attract people. So if the young man says, “I want to buy a motorcycle so all the chicks will love me!”, he will become disappointed. The man who has the motorcycle prefers life a little on the dangerous side which makes him interesting. The man who buys the motorcycle just to get chicks is pathetic. You cannot hide from yourself. People will sniff out the difference.
Selling to customers is about seducing the customers. You don’t do it by trying to impress. You do it by being interesting in the first place.

The problem with young men is that they see the woman’s response as a referendum on themselves. And this is stupid. In the same way, the customer’s response is not a referendum on you.
I’ve noticed mediocrities all rush to ‘creativity’ because they believe they can end their mediocre lives in this way. “Once I illustrate my creativity, I will no longer be a mediocre man.” But it doesn’t work that way. You need to become interesting first, and then your products become interesting as a result of that.
Imagine how absurd it is for a man to say, “Once this woman likes me, I will no longer be a mediocre man.” Fella, women do not like mediocre men. If you want the babe, improve yourself first. Become an interesting man. Then the babes will become interested in you.
I keep seeing weak souled individuals try to produce ‘great works’ in hopes everyone will praise them. But it never works that way. They need to become interesting first before they can make interesting works.
