Helping a family member get a gift for a child, I was shocked to find Lego sets cost as much or more than video games. Go into your closest store and just look at the prices. They are insane! Sure enough, you’ll see a box on the shelf saying ‘castle set’ costing $150. $150 for one set of legos!!!! You could buy a Wii and NSMB Wii for that much! And the value of the Wii is way beyond the stupid legos.
Doing a quick price check on Amazon, let’s see what we find…

This cost over $1300.

This cost $900.
“But Malstrom,” snarls a reader, “those are the technical sets. They are not meant for children.” How can legos not be for children? OK. Let s look at non technic lego sets.

This cost $400. No joke!

$450 for a pirate ship.
$300 for the Batcopter. Notice the age says 7-12. Who in the world would pay $300 for one set of legos for a kid younger than 13?

$400! For a castle set! Crazy!
How can parents complain about the prices of video games? The high prices of video games during the 16-bit generation are nothing compared to this. At least, kids who grew up with cartridges still play them. Who keeps using their lego sets except those weirdos who collect them?
