Email: More odd behavior towards Valve

That seems odd. That strip takes a shot against pretty much every big name around(though the bias there is quite obvious), but when it comes to Valve… Nothing. Actually instead of poking some fun at it, they praise them! What makes Valve immune to any sort of criticism? People won’t even try to make fun of them.It is definitely curious. Basically, Steam is ‘Hardcore Gamer DisneyLand’. What is funny is that our hardcore friends think they are ‘above and beyond’ those ‘smelly casuals’ (the hardcore gamers’ self-seen nemesis), but they are like cattle marching into the slaughterhouse. Only an idiot would invest in building a Steam library. You have no control over it. If Steam bans you or changes their terms, you can lose your entire library. And there is nothing you can do about it.

There is much criticism on Valve and Steam if you go outside the Hardcore Gamer neighborhood. On sites like GoG, you’ll see people’s aversion to Steam’s DRM schemes.

Valve has successfully marketed themselves as if they are different from EA. For some reason, people love posting pictures of Gabe Newell as if that means Valve is any different (why all the Gabe Newell porn in the Gaming Message Forum?). In a way, I hope this continues so the hardcore gamers will stay in their trashy Steam and keep away from contaminating the good DRM free game stores.

Digital distribution only took off in music when Steve Jobs pushed for it to be DRM free. Is Gabe Newell doing that? NO. In fact, someone should ask him about that in an interview and see what he says (no one will ask him anything but creampuff questions). Steam is actually holding back digital distribution of games on the PC because of Valve’s ridiculous policies (the greedy 30% off every purchase, the offline mode is a joke as you always have to be connected, you are never in control of your game library, etc).

I will never, ever, buy anything more from Steam. And there are a growing number of people who are doing the same thing. There is a growth of more and more DRM free gaming stores going out there. In a few years, Steam is going to be in trouble.
