This is the same sort of impression I received from Super Mario Galaxy. It wasn't like, you know, the Mushroom Kingdom. This was space. I was in space. Most of the familiar Mushroom Kingdom elements are either changed or not present, even, so instead of feeling like I'm playing Super Mario 64 2, I feel like I'm just plain in space. And I guess if it was like, Zelda, it would be more like "Link's adventures in space" or something, so that sense of immersion is pretty cool.

Has anyone noticed that, in that video, even some of the games that are coming to the Wii aren't listed as coming to the Wii? Shaun White Snowboarding and Call of Duty: World at War are both shown, and listed for systems other than Wii, even though they're both coming to the Wii.

And it's not because of visuals, because when they showed Shaun White, it listed PS2 as one of the systems it's coming to.

I think saying "Janus is dead" is wrong. Janus isn't dead.
"Janus is dead. The ’skill’ and ‘talent’ of either face, engineering or artist, no longer matter. What matters is performing the job the customers want done. "

Over the top. Of course engineering and art matter. Wii Sports would be nothing without talented engineers, and artists to a lesser extent. I'm glad the artists responsible for Skytown in Metroid Prime 3 weren't told they they don't matter.

What you're arguing about is the purpose they are applied to. They can't be ends unto themselves. Games have been selling primarily for gameplay for years, and well before this generation. Any publisher still funding developers that value art and tech over gameplay deserves what they get.

@Sean : agreed fully, but as I said earlier, I must apologize. Although I did not try to disprove your arguments by calling them articles, I did refer to them as "articles", so yeah, my bad.

Speaking of news, do you intend to re-upload the contents of the old news page anytime soon? Even though they're not fully-fledged articles, I like your insight on things such as the monthly NPD results ;).

Otherwise, I find it sad that nobody takes the time to have a discussion with you about disruption, blue ocean, the state of the industry, and so on. It's funny some should consider you arrogant, when, in your comment, you basically said "I'm not the best around here, I just happen to be the only one arguing for now. I'd be glad to discuss". There are some people on some forums that happen to know about disruption and blue ocean and have interesting thoughts on the subject like you, but they don't seem to want to argue about it, which is a shame, really.

Having only one point of view will always be dangerous for those who're not as knowledgeable as the writer (like me). There's a lack of perspective when nobody's there to tell you "hmm, you might be wrong on your interpretation here, here's why", don't you think? The writer AND the reader might forget to stand back; the writer because he might become full of himself, the reader because he might lack the tools to think properly by himself (he's far less knowledgeable than the author).

Lately, there has been many trying to depict that these blog posts ARE my articles. They aren't. The reason why this blog exists in the first place is to replace the old news page. It allows RS feed and allows people to comment. Those are its chief advantages.

I've made many enemies over the years. This is expected as it is the pioneers who always take the arrows. And don't misunderstand, I am quite happy to take them. I would kill for a real argument to disruption or another idea of what is going on in the market. But no one has any.

The rising popularity of myself and the site is not because the ideas are better presented or argued than others; it is because there are no competing ideas. The success is akin to walking through empty rooms.

Since critics can't attack the message, they attack the messenger. It is quite fun to listen to how 'evil' Malstrom is, how 'arrogant' he is, and so on, but I began to be curious as to how suddenly these news item blog posts got referred to as 'articles'.

This blog site is a part of the main site which is titled "Malstrom's Articles". When you click on the 'News' link, you come to this blog (which unsurprisingly has 'news'). It is pretty clear that this blog and the former news page are 'news' and not the articles that "Malstrom's Articles" references to. The title of this blog is even "Malstrom's Articles News" meaning it is news for the main site.

Everyone tends to get this. Those that don't tend to be frightened by higher standards. If you want to think a couple of paragraphs is an article in your world, go ahead. But in mine, it barely registers as a comment.

I want high standards, and I want to raise them higher. My goal is to display context and do so in an entertaining way.

If people want to lower their standards, to make love to mediocrity, that is their decision. But on this site, I will strive to keep standards high.
