N’gai Croal: “Boom Blox will sell if in high definition. Make it semi-exclusive!”

N’gai’s calling for Boom Blox to be moved to the HD Twins because it will ‘sell more’ because of the ‘reviews’, and should be in HD, is reason enough to watch this Bonus Round.

Bonus Round is amusing because it is like a “Meet the Press” type of talking heads. It really shows how politicized society is when the gaming industry sounds like a political talk show. But it is all done with a sense of fun so that is good.

What are your thoughts of this Bonus Round?

  1. I thought you said he was a smart analyst.

Or maybe he’s the smartest OF the analysts, which is like being on the honor roll in a special needs school.

  2. Ugh, N’gai, I used to think you were one of the good ones. There’s no possible way to rationalize this, it’s just a really dumb thing to say.

Ignoring that the general owners of 360s and PS3s would flee in horror at adorable lego-esque cartoon animals, the entire graphical style is absolutely one of the last things that would lend itself to HD. It’s a bunch of basic blocks that you knock over. That’s like saying being able to see every fine detail on each extremely basic blocky roll-able item in Katamari Damacy would make the game better.

The fun comes entirely from the motion control. While an X-mote is inevitable, I doubt they’ll get it to work as well as the Wii’s controller, and it’d be even worse on the PS3, where you’d either have to heave the two handed controller around, or flick a control stick.

This is a completely illogical conclusion.

  3. Is N’gai crazy?! If Bloom Blox was awesome in SD as people say it is that why would anyone want to spend an extra $20 just to get it on a cinema type system when it is good enough in SD? The biggest problem with Blox is that the marketing is for a really, really narrow demographic. This is the marketing manager’s fault for making such a bad decision to market this game to 6-12 year olds when marketing for everyone would have made the best impact. Heck; just expanding the marketing to 6-35 year olds would still be a better choice then what we got from EA’s marketing department. I’ve seen this segmentation thing with animation that was really awesome; but didn’t get the ratings needed to expand beyond one season so this isn’t just a video game exclusive problem.

And making it semi-exclusive in that putting it on the HD Twins is absurd since the Nintendo DS has the bigger install base ; but of course Mr. Croal ignores this. Why? Because he thinks third party games don’t sell on Nintendo platforms. In his mind; Mr. Iwata pulled the 50/50 split in one million unit sellers and software sales in general out of thin air. Mr. Coral is simply talking out of his ass like Michael “Sideshow/Doctor Patcher/Pii Wii/Pee on the Wii” Pachter is and the only reason few are being critical towards him is because they are afraid that he’ll call them racists. Don’t believe me? Tell him how awesome Resident Evil 5 setting is going to be and be prepared to listen to him for a long while.

  4. This annoys me greatly. You always see people on forums complaining that the game would sell better on “anything but the Wii”. Laughably they do this even for the game Okami. Everyone freaked that it hasn’t cracked the top ten and blamed the Wii. Of course they blame the PS2 for having “too many good games” and declare that “Okami just couldn’t keep up!” they blame the Wii saying “only casuals by games on the Wii!” In fact people forget to remember that games they loved last gen including Viewtiful Joe, God Hand, etc. flopped just as hard on any system they were released on. The main difference is that Wii games have good legs. Boom Blox especially since its a puzzle game which is a genre generally spread through word of mouth. N’gai forgets to mention that Carnival Games, super monkey ball delux, and mysims sold just as well as boom blox but reached the half million/million sales do to legs. I have a feeling Boomblox may do the same.

I don’t even think this is a big problem for them, i go around and I ask some friends about video games and they go on about how they bought boom blox and then the others remember to buy it. Its word of mouth. Its just not going to have huge sales and drop off like most cinematic games. And really what puzzle game has?

  6. I love the bonus round, I can’t wait to see the post E3 episodes when all “these analysts” will be unable to explain how the Wii destroyed the competition. Mark my word, this year E3 will be the best for Nintendo and the worst for the HD twins.

But in truth, these analysts are not always wrong as I heard some intelligent comments from time to time. I think the Nintendo’s episode will be quite interesting to watch.

  7. I have curiosity in what in how Bloom Box will perform. You see, EA said the sales was under they estimate, but, at the same time, they are still targeting to demografics. It’s like they learn the half of the lesson. If Bloom Box has long legs, maybe EA will learn something. If not, they maybe learn something anyway. Apparently, their problem is they still don’t get the complete picture, BUT they maybe get a part of the picture right. Unlike Ubisoft…

  8. The only way it has a chance of selling more is if it is priced at $30 or under when it relaunches.

Knowing EA, if/when they port it over, it will be just as highly priced, if not higher.

  9. I don’t understand N’gai’s thinking. Why would it sell better on a HiDef system then it did on the Wii. Don’t people usually just buy the system the game is on in order to play it?

Also, everyone there seems to still like that word ‘casual’.

Yeah malstom I too noticed how everything has to be political lately. Meanwhile everything political has to be tabloid.

  10. i honestly think its a horrible show.

the game isn’t brown so it wont sell on 360/ps3
