The Glory of 8-Bit Music

One complaint you don’t hear about Mega Man 9 is the music despite it using inferior technology of twenty years ago. It made me wonder if after the 16-bit generation, our ears really couldn’t appreciate much difference. After CDs, every upgrade to gaming audio became overshooting.

So how would other games sound in 8-bit? Interestingly, they don’t sound bad at all. It goes to show that good music isn’t constrained by its technology but by its talent. Now why can’t we adopt the same attitude towards graphics?

Super Smash Brothers Brawl (Main Theme)

Super Mario Galaxy (Battlerock)

Donkey Kong Country 2 (Bramble Blast)

Mega Man 9

It doesn’t get any better than that!
