Journalists: Let us omit Wii from the industry

My earlier comments about the fall of journalism especially in the mainstream circles should be self evident with stories such as this. Here, we read about how Final Fantasy XII went from exclusive to Xbox 360 and that this is supposed to be shocking because Final Fantasy has always been exclusive to Sony systems. Ahh, mainstream journalists.

Konami June release of “Metal Gear Solid 4,” a game franchise exclusive to Sony’s PS3, helped narrow the gap between Nintendo’s Wii console and the PS3. The units of PS3 consoles sold hit a record for a non- holiday month, according to NPD research group.

No, Wii was still ‘growing the gap’. In order to ‘narrow the gap’, PS3 actually has to outsell Wii once for the gap to narrow. This isn’t happening.

As you can see from the rest of the article, the story goes on as if the Wii doesn’t even exist. I suspect the journalist intended to write the story that matched the headline that console exclusives can no longer exist. Yet, the Wii shows they can and do exist. Instead of the journalist rewriting his story or putting it in correct perspective, he omits the Wii because he is lazy and wants his story done.

The analyst quotes in there are also entertaining.

The biggest surprise for me is that I thought when the Wii would show its obvious success, everyone would go, “Whoa! Let us see how Nintendo did it.” They’re not doing this. At first, they denied the success would remain. “It is a fad.” “Wait for HD console price cuts.”  Now that time has passed, the console is still sold out in America, they show zero interest as to why the Wii is doing what it is doing. They only seem interested in the ‘battle’ between Sony and Microsoft as if that is the only thing that matters.
