This is the question I keep asking when I see viral marketers and obvious shill columnists. Viral markets go, “You fanboys get in all a tizzy about even the possibility! It is so funny…” And the viral marketers have a technique where one viral marketer makes the outrageous claim while another comes in and says, “That guy is exactly right…”
The reason why people react angrily to the viral marketing and blatant shilling by columnists is because you guys are insulting our intelligence. It is the voice of reason that says Wii will outsell other consoles this cycle. The proof is that the system is still sold out in the U.S. Everyone knows this is unprecendented. People react poorly to shill commentators and columnists not because these people are fanboys but because these people feel their intelligence has been insulted. Everyone knew Xbox 360 wasn’t going to be first this generation once it became clear it bombed in Japan.
Saying that the Wii will likely continue to be successful is saying the only objective conclusion any reasonable person can make. While the Wii may not be sold out for too much longer, it certainly will outpace the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 combined.
I want these shill columnists and commentators to keep continuing. The marketing heads don’t realize it yet, butby going this path, they are insulting people who read what they are saying which pushes them away from the product they want to promote. There is no shame that the Xbox 360 is being outsold by the Wii. If Microsoft was smart, they would promote what the 360 offers as a different experience than the Wii instead of trying to ‘combat’ the Wii and people who play the Wii.
As the Next Gen Consoles begin to have lower prices than the eeeevil Wii, we can now throw another Industry Conventional Truth onto the ashheap of burned out excuses for the ‘next gen’ systems this generation. For the hardcore, let us play a little song as another door of next gen hope slams right into their faces again as another excuse bites the dust…
