What NPD Charts REALLY Say

Do you know what the NPD numbers REALLY say? What does it REALLY MEAN when Wii and DS keep topping the sales charts beyond their competitors?

It means, VERY SOON, Nintendo will release a Wii HD.

Nintendo will make all those Wii systems out there obsolete and put out a Wii HD. Nintendo will scrap the development cost advantage the Wii has to make their HD system. Everyone knows that the biggest constraint to Wii sales is the lack of HD graphics for Wii Music, Wii Fit, Wii Sports, and other games. How on earth can anyone enjoy Wii games without HD displays? Even though HD installed base is not really the majority position, Nintendo needs to stop doing what they are doing and start making games for the minority of television sets. Nintendo needs to EMULATE the LOSING CONSOLES of this generation and adopt all their features! It is because we all know that once the HD consoles come below the price range of the Wii, they are going to take off with sales that go UP, UP, UP!

Nintendo needs to make a Wii HD now or risk collapse!!!! This is what the NPD numbers mean.

A voice arises from the crowd: “Are you stupid or something? Why would the best selling console change their ways? And why would they change their ways by copying the losing consoles?”

“Yeah!” said another voice. “Why would Nintendo, in the wave of their success, suddenly go against the Blue Ocean Strategy and Disruption?”

What are these voices? How dare you question me! I am the great and amazing analyst! I am beyond questions such as these! I am quoted in stories everywhere! Who are you to suggest otherwise? If I suggest that Nintendo needs to make a game about farm chickens battling ducks from Jupiter, it will be presented as ‘amazing insight’, and I will be invited back to give the same exact insight again!

You shouters don’t get it! I can say anything, no matter how ridiculous, and keep saying it, and no matter how wrong or off I am, I will be invited back again and again as an ‘expert’ in your news stories.

*The crowd gets really angry. They start throwing tomatoes.*

Just look at IGN. They get to declare Kid Icarus is always coming. While any other site would have been smacked down by putting out rumors to drive hits, IGN gets to keep doing it again and again. So why can’t analysts say that the more successful Wii becomes, and the more the HD Twins fail, the more Nintendo should scrap it for a Wii HD to emulate their competitors?

(Yeah, I’ve been taking the sarcasm pills lately. It really is amazing how anyone can believe that a Wii HD is right around the corner.)
