Old Gamecube games to Wii is a good move

I first heard about this possibility before the Wii launched. Bringing over old Gamecube games with new play controls is a terrific move.

First, these are good games. Most of the Wii audience hasn’t seen them.

Second, they will be for budget price (always nice).

Third, the content for the games is already done. They cost very, very little for Nintendo to put out. For you hardcore whiners out there, how can you complain about this but cheer Okami and Resident Evil 4 on the Wii with new controls? It is the same thing! I would like more third parties to do this as well. Unfortunately, Gamecube didn’t get much third party support.

The game I am most curious about is Mario Tennis. It wasn’t mass produced for Gamecube (making it slightly difficult to get). The reason why is because it wasn’t that good of a game. The two big problems with it were the controls and the power shots. The controls will likely be fixed with the new control scheme so that is one big problem gone. But will Nintendo do something about the powershots or at least make them optional? And with Wii Tennis around, can Mario Tennis’s controls match Wii Tennis or will they just replicate button presses? If it is the latter, I can’t see this game going far.

I wonder if Windwaker will be ported to the Wii as well as Super Mario Sunshine? Even an Eternal Darkness port would be a welcome appearance.

I’d like Sega to port Skies of Arcadia to Wii as well.

And why not put Pacman VS on Wiiware? Have DS download be the pacman part where everyone else are the ghosts (and the Wiimote’s directional pad would be sufficient for the ghosts).

A shame if Mario Tennis doesn’t have the degree of control that Wii Tennis has. Combining Wii Tennis with the craziness of Mario Kart would create a monster new franchise.
