“…Disruption doesn’t make things better, it makes things simpler…”

isn’t it about a re-focus in something else?  i remember the 6 elements that a company may focus on but as years go by, it changes due to improvements.  overtime, you’ll see that one or more elements are greater then the others and by putting more focus into the elements that are not into focus, it creates an imbalance of the “old world”, which creates disruption [the new world].  i remember this from reading that “only the paranoid survive” book from that intel guy.

Intel guy didn’t write the disruption books. I think Paranoid Survive came out before Innovator’s Dilemma, but I could be wrong. I understand ‘the Intel guy’ became a big believer in Christenon’s ideas since Christenson focused first primarily in the computer industry.

i thought microsoft did a good job competing against sony.  but two days later after the main conference from the top companies [nintendo, sony, microsoft], it became clear that microsoft was basically hyping.  for instance, metal gear raiden, i thought it was only for 360, but it wasn’t as sony has said that metal gear raiden would also appear on a sony ps3 console.

What!? Microsoft is hyping? NO WAY!!! :)

you knew natal was a gimmick when the idea of playing the games were very silly.  that girl playing that dodgeball game, who the hell would want to play a game like that.  the guy mentioning, no silly preprogrammed waggle, was a marketting attempt as the people at ms know that the hardcore dislike nintendo’s motion controller and know what the audiences want to hear.  btw, what was the purpose of knowing what the bottom of a avatar looked like?

the presentation of the natal and eye toy felt that it wasn’t their main focus but a gimmick of some sort.  i don’t know what it is but it felt like a cheesy move they were doing.

Natal isn’t even that new. It has been used for video games before and used in the military.

why is the nintendo conference shorter then the other two?

I don’t know, but I prefer shorter conferences. Cramming in the content is better.

i believe mario galaxy 2 is something created specifically for the hardcore audiences only.  i’ve noticed that in many of the game sites,ign.com for instance, have people [hardcore] who often been looking forward to a second mario galaxy game [matt casamasina is an example].

If Nintendo starts making games for Matt Casamassina, then we are all in trouble!

Consider my favorite Reggie quote: “Matt said Zelda won’t be epic without voices. I remember the last time Matt made a critically acclaimed game. It was called the Mailbag.”

how do you become good at deciphering the conference and in general any company?  you’re really good at it!

I don’t think I’m good at it. However, many people seemed interested in my reactions to the conferences. My reaction to the Microsoft E3 Conference recieved the most hits. I think I was putting into words what many people were sensing. With the huge marketing push with various news outlets proclaiming how Natal would alter civilization and how Sony and Nintendo shouldn’t even bother to do their conferences since they ‘already lost’, I think people liked seeing thoughts of their own reflected elseware. The viral marketers that appeared, from seemingly nowhere, after that E3 conference were pretty obvious. Interestingly, I’ve had no complaints from anyone thinking I went ‘too far’ in saying that. I think everyone is as fed up with the ‘hidden marketing’ as I am.

you’ve often refered to sega as once a head of software and hardware development that was just as competitive as nintendo, yet how come they’ve been very lacking in seeing what the wii has to offer as compared to the 360/ps3?  how come they’ve become very lacking in creating software that can utilize the wii?

Today’s Sega is a very different Sega than of the past. They lost many of their talented people.

I would love to see someone clean Nintendo’s clock, but it sure as heck isn’t going to come from these two dumb, bloated, non-gaming companies of Microsoft and Sony. If the old Sega was making consoles, you better believe that a motion controller would have been shown off at E3 2008 and launched that Christmas. With these two current bozos we have now, their motion controllers appear way late at E3 2009, just days before Motion Plus launches, and then they are still stuck in the tech demo stage!!!

wasn’t it awkward when sony mentions final fantasy 13 and later revealed that final fantasy 14 is being released later in 2010?  what is awkward is that ff13 isn’t even out yet [spring 2010] and there is often delays and then a ff14 announcement.  it sounds like that ms idea you were presenting, how ms often hype things up and delaying the software and when it is finally released, it is a total flop or subpar software.  it almost feels the same with this situation.  btw, did you hear the audience when this was mentioned by the spokesman.

halo 3 odt, it feels old!  when i saw god of war 3, i was like gee that looks like the same moves and experiences i’ve done since the firstgod of war.

Sequels! Sequels! Yeah, they are getting old. Remember when there were games that didn’t have a numeral in their name? Ahh, the old days…
