I am getting flooded with emails. So I want to share how I do this.
Usually, I try to keep up with news of the day and do a post on this or that because it is topical. It becomes irrelevant if I wait. So that has the priority.
Then I go to email which comes in faster than I can respond. Ever since I began responding to email on the blog, writing and grammar of the emails improved remarkably! =)
Usually I aim to get the smaller emails first. Then I go towards the larger ones.
I don’t intentionally ignore any email. You know the feeling when your eyes get dizzy when staring at a monitor? That is when I stop regardless if there are new emails I haven’t reached.
If I suspect an emailer is trying too hard to get on the site, I will ignore it. Usually, this is rare. Game developers (who are emailing me from their offices so I can tell they are game developers) or analysts or any ‘special’ people (you know what I mean), their emails do not get posted in public. I do this partially for their protection (I have no interest in unintentionally hurting someone or their career), but I do it also for my sake. Most game sites quote what ‘special people’ say or what they email to them. I want people to come to this site because of MY content, not to see what a ‘special person’ said. So let us say that Iwata emailed me. I wouldn’t publish what he said because people would come to the site to see what Iwata said, not what I said. Besides, Iwata’s emails are in Japanese anyway so I wouldn’t be able to read them.
I like publishing what readers are saying because they often come up with things I didn’t think about and can spur thoughts I wouldn’t normally have on my own. I also like how this site is putting the spotlight more on what the customers are saying than the ‘special people’ in the “Games Industry”. The ‘special people’ are still special, but I want to place the average customer on a pedestal. They might comment on something going on, might ask me something, might attack me, whatever, it is all good.
I suspect readers like hearing what other readers say (though I could be wrong on this). The more I do Email posts, the more emails I get!
Please be patient. Some people are sending me lengthy stuff. I’m trying to get to them all.
