I’m not paying close attention to the Smartphone wars. But that link definitely shows how most people automatically think of competition in making a ‘better’ product. Google likes to play the role of disruptor. Disrupting is all about loving the low end.
If Google could make money from outside their advertising revenue, Google would be a force to reckon with. Right now, all the Google ‘projects’ come across as nothing more than science experiments. They aren’t bringing in the money. So Google remains vulnerable if someone messes up their advertising revenue as the company is so dependent on that.
iPhone’s success came much from its interface. Not from its “power”. Why would a handheld, having more ‘power’ than the iPhone, be more successful? How much power does a handheld need? Isn’t it currently ‘good enough’ to do the job it needs to do?
