The Good Enough Revolution

Wired has an article on disruption on various industries. Go check it out.

One of the points it makes that I like is that disruptions prosper during a recession. The ‘high end’ products get chopped off while more and more people find the ‘low end’ to be ‘good enough’.

While the Wii is declared “dead” with the “fad being over” with declining hardware sales, someone should take a look at the top software sales that are consistently being dominated by Nintendo and EA games. It shows that the ‘Expanded Market’ are the ones buying the games during the ‘recession’, not our friends the ‘Hardcore’.

I also suspect the recession to boost sales of physical products over digital distribution. If you have plenty of money, it is easy to just buy some games over digital distribution and not think of it. But when money is much tighter, the consumer becomes much savvier.

In other words, I am going to throw a party when PSP Go is sent off to die. We should thank Sony for jacking up the price that even Pachter calls a ‘rip-off’. The demise of the PSP Go will hopefully ensure that the DD-only console is never attempted again. You can’t die soon enough, PSP Go.
