Super Metroid.
Super Nintendo.
1994.
Curiously, the older this game gets, the more popular it gets. It certainly wasn’t that popular when it came out. It was fast overshadowed by Donkey Kong Country.
Super Metroid has likely become overrated. The game world is very static. The gameplay consists of only going from one location to another with the monsters thrown in just to slow you down. Besides, you didn’t have to make your own map in Super Metroid. Very noobish indeed. But then again, this is one of my most replayed games. Short, but epic. Immersive, but not escapist.
Tthe game is the ultimate ‘comfort game’. The artwork is very well done with bright and vibrant colors. But what can never be overstated is the music. The music, more than anything else, really made the atmosphere. How can chiptune music be so damn good?
