One very successful disruptor on the scene lately has been the Flip.
While everyone else was putting in more features and all these various zooming components and all in their video recorders, Flip focused entirely on accessibility and made it very simple. The result was that Flip became extremely successful.
The above is Apple’s new iPod that has a video recorder on it. Apple is very much well aware of the Flip. This new iPod will be attempting to co-opt the Flip. Will it work?
I haven’t looked into it too closely. But I suspect that it will work. Flip lacks the Shield of Disruption. The motivations behind the Flip are the same behind this new iPod. People will likely just get the new iPod rather than get a Flip.
But then again, one could say that iPod is not that interested in the motivation of fully accessible video recording. Video recording will eat up space and most people don’t have tons of space on their iPod. People tend to like products that do one thing very well rather than a Swiss Army knife product. This will be interesting to watch to see if the Flip can survive Apple’s new iPod.
