Reggie says…

Reggie says:

“…But I think it’s a mistake to say that we’ve ignored the gamer or that we don’t have products for the core gamer. I mean, New Super Mario Bros. has every gamer excited. Just the little tidbits that we’ve shown about the new Zelda for Wii has gamers tremendously excited. We’re going to continue to bring great content both to that experienced player as well as the brand new player, and that’s what we do really well.”

Interesting that he didn’t mention Galaxy 2 and Other M. Those would be more ‘core’ than NSMB Wii and both of those would be released before Zelda Wii.

Here, he says:

“We’ve considered so many types of input devices. We’ve considered not having input devices. One of the things that our developers have told us is giving the consumer some sort of feedback is very important. Whether it’s standing on a balance board…whether it’s the feedback you get with a Wii remote. So for us, we’ve considered just about everything, but we do believe that feedback is pretty important, and that’s what you don’t get without having any type of input device at all.

You know, who knows what the future may hold, but what we will do is always have within an input device, something the gives the gamer feedback as to how they’re doing, how they’re playing, and how they can improve that gaming experience.”

Have you heard the viral messenger response to the above? Since most gamers are going “WTF” with Natal, viral messengers are really revealing themselves as they try to push Natal.

The viral messenger response to the above is that Nintendo didn’t want to make Natal because they want to milk you with as many controllers to buy as possible. With reading this, I laughed so loud I woke up the cat.

The history of console gaming is a history of various inputs. Look at the Atari 2600 or other consoles around that time. The Atari 2600 didn’t come with just the joystick. It  came with paddles as well. The NES and the 16-bit generation (though to a lesser extend) had a large variety of different controllers. Ever since 3d gaming, controllers have lost variety.

I LOVE different choices of inputs. I love being able to plug in a REAL ARCADE STICK to play some games. I love being able to use a nice six button controller to play Street Fighter 2. I loved the light guns of the past.

PC gaming also had a wild variety of controllers (though you must be older to remember it). Remember, the most consistent best selling game on the PC was Flight Simulator. That game used extremely fancy joysticks. I remember Mech Warrior 2 coming out with a joystick to it. I couldn’t even play Wing Commander without a good joystick. But like console games, when PC gaming went 3d, the variety of controllers ceased.

History is against Natal on this one.
