Today, I just bought the best Final Fantasy game in existence: Final Fantasy for the Virtual Console. The updates and remakes of it don’t do the game justice. Even the “attacking air” is necessary. You need to think out what your attacks are instead of just blindly pressing ‘attack’.
Final Fantasy I oozes replayability with how many combinations of party members you can have. Games, today, just don’t really cut it.
I’ve never liked the JOB system since it makes it too easy for the player. Imagine if your FF1 characters could turn into other classes at the drop of a hat? EASY! WIMPY! JOB system is for wimps. You chose your classes and you are stuck with them, for good or for ill.
FF1 holds up surprisingly well. When people complain the game is a ‘grindfest’, they do not understand what is going on. It is a game of growth. A game where getting a new item or spell totally changed your experience.
And the game’s story with the time travel, ancient civilizations, and all surpasses any of the other FF games. A video game story shines best without someone shoving it in your face with theatrics and dialogue.
I’ve noticed that Final Fantasy I is the most popular download on the VC outside 2d Marios. As always, there is that group of “Malstrom gamers” out there buying and loving these content rich games.
Best of all, the men actually look like badasses! Remember when video game male characters did not run around as effeminate crybabies?
Yeah, I think you do.
