You compared Microsoft giving away Kinect to videogame journalists (who would have received it anyway) to Oprah giving away stuff. Now guess, what actually happened:
I have no Idea who this woman is, or what she does, but when she give away stuff for free, the whole general hype around her smells fishy.
Sweaty balding middle aged men in Microsoft said, “Let us get Kinect on Oprah! Then, it will be popular.” Actually, it is a mimicking of Ellen and her giving away Wii Fit (a gif that is still on my website) during the Wii Fit craze.
The dirty secret is that Oprah’s ratings are way down. This is odd because her ratings were always so high and were consistently high since her show debuted in 1984. But now, not that many people watch Oprah. The decline occurred around the same time Oprah began campaigning for a certain politician.
Putting Kinect on Oprah isn’t going to sell Kinect. You can tell Reggie’s view of Microsoft when he says “Do I think that in the near term they [Apple] can hurt us more than Microsoft?” Fils-Aime says. “Absolutely.” The Press is going to spin that statement as Nintendo being scared of Apple (the Press has already made up statements Nintendo made about being ‘scared of Apple’) but Reggie is talking about competition in a general way. And with that comment, Reggie is saying, “LOL Kinect!”
