VGChartz is overtracking Other M by quite a bit. The game is not at 525,000 units. Not at all.
In its first month in the U.S. (which was a 5-week reporting period for NPD) Other M pulled 173,000 units (http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/6176/npd_behind_the_numbers_september_.php).
In Japan, Media Create listed the total sales for the game at 56,000 before they completely dropped off the charts (http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=136251).
Sales were so horrible in Europe that the game only reached #12 on the charts, and that’s so low there aren’t even any reported numbers down there! (http://www.el33tonline.com/past/2010/9/6/uk_software_charts_mafia_ii_remains/).
Even if we were to assume that Other M pulled 56,000 sales in Europe, the same amount it totaled in Japan, that gives the game worldwide sales of about 285,000.
At this rate the game will be lucky to match Metroid Prime 2’s sales.
Sakamoto is already planning Metroid: Other M 2 where instead of maternal insticts, we get to explore ‘love’ between Samus Aran and Anthony Higgs (Remember him?). It will be a daring love story! This time, Samus Aran has to prove how tough she is to Anthony Higgs. She will do things like go through Norfair without her varia suit just to impress him! She’ll probably turn off her missiles in big boss fights just to make sure she gets his attention.
