Email: Kinect and 32X

Oh, silly Malstrom, of course there is no need to analyze ALL of video game history. Don’t you know that the PlayStation changed everything? That the PlayStation finally made gaming mainstream and established is as an art form on its own?

Prior to the PlayStation video games were seen as toys for children and nerds. But thanks to the PlayStation’s mature gaming library with games such as Resident Evil or the cinematic masterpiece Final Fantasy VII, it was proven that video games can bee just as deep and culturally important as books and movies. Better and clearer graphics finally removed the need for abstraction and appealed massively to the mainstream and the constant improvement will win more and more people over, who could simply not understand the pixelated mess that was the 8bit age.

Don’t you know that the PS2 is the best selling video game console EVER? Even better than the Wii (which is obviously a symptom of Wii’s lack of real games). Look at this, Paris Hilton is holding up Soul Calibur II for the PS2

Obviously she is doing so because she loves video games.

Did you ever see mainstream celebrities holding up video games prior to the PlayStation? Of course not, and that totally proves my point.

Don’t you understand, that what happens now is absolutely nothing like the 8bit and 16bit age? We have almost reached the point when video games will look just as good as reality. Nobody cares about that old garbage, except some backwards minded nostalgics, who keep buying the same old games over and over again. Even Nintendo sees this, that’s why the 3DS was built. I did not buy the DS nor the Wii, but I already preordered the 3DS. And since the casual gamers will buy the 3DS as well, since they buy anything from Nintendo, as well as us real gamers, we will all be united in the glorious future of true gaming. And it’s all due to Sony’s constant sacrifices to the gaming community.

So stop living in the past, and embrace the wondrous new world, the gift of the PlayStation.

PS: Just for the record, yes, I am being sarcastic. I wouldn’t be surprised if you were getting such mails that were actually meant seriously.

Actually, I thought this was another spam email from Michael Pachter.
