Email: Is Nintendo trying to be like Disney?

.
One word suddenly struck me after watching this: Aladdin. The game has a distinct Arabic-Aladdin type influence. Link is wearing baggy pants like Aladdin. The doors and areas just seem to have that Arabic look and feel to them. Then there’s the more obvious one with the big Golden Statue Boss guy.

.
Why is Nintendo putting content from Aladdin in Zelda? I think of Ocarina of Time and all of the other Zeldas before them to be more similar to a Lord of the Rings-esque Epic than the type of content they’ve centered recent Zeldas around.
.
And now I’m looking at Nintendo’s library and realizing that they look like a bunch of Disney movies. It seems Nintendo is trying to emulate Disney’s success by making their games become similar in their content.
.
Mario – Alice in Wonderland
.
Kid Icarus – Hercules (how else do you explain the horribly cheesy voice acting but them trying to emulate the success of Hercules’ story and characters?)
.
Donkey Kong Country – Tarzan (Although Tarzan was not as well-received a Disney movie. The movie probably didn’t resonate with Japan well, similar to how this one isn’t really a Japanese game. This is why only Western studios like Rare or Retro take care of this series.)
.
Metroid, Star Fox, Punch-Out, and F-Zero, maybe throw Star Tropics in there for good measure, are all very much different types of content from what Disney movies are. And notice how they are all either missing in action or in severe decline.
.
Do not connect Mario to Alice in Wonderland! I did that before (based on Miyamoto’s actual quotes), but Miyamoto got angry at me and declared it ‘misinformation’.
.
Your email provides an interesting view on things. Anyone have thoughts on this subject?
