I made up my mind man I’m going with full sail to get my master in game production. Me and you are on the same page with much in gaming but I really miss the old art in gaming.

You know I know zbrush and I’ve been playing with gaming tools since doom1.

You know what I saw the most. These tool makers had no idea how to make tools that could make free form arcade games easy to make.
The real reason why we hate 3d Mario is because 2d collision is way easier than 3d collision detection and the 3d by it self causes all types of lag problem with input controls because of unstable frame rates.
I loved running and jumping in quake 3 yet I hated doing the same actions in unreal tournament. I would even design my quake 3 maps to be jump fest with fps areas. Quake 3 was 3G Mario to me with a gun. Many times I would rocket jump over people to kill them just because it was fun like Mario.

I paid over $600 for an n64 and four controllers and only ended up buying 7 games I believe. While disappointed I went on to play with game making tools and finishing my degree.

For a while I stayed away from the saturns and ps2s till I won a ps2 at a tournament. You see I was a pro at sf2turbo me and my brother actually have tons of VHS tapes of our epic fights lol. I had not played the new 3d sf2ex yet good ok Capcom left most of the mechanics in this version also.
People where pulling crazy moves out of no where while I blocked and timed simple low high combos and won my ps2. First game I got was einhander lol. Man I loved that game! Then r-type then every 2d game I could find lol.

After learning the ways of pc gaming and jumping back into console with a keen arcade passion I started looking at ways to bring back the arcade.
Gaming needs the arcade bad. Portable gaming is ok but the problem is you never know who has one. In arcades you could see some one kicking ass and decide to join them or enjoy their skill.

Sorry for the rant but so much that you are saying is true but you are missing some things. A fun 3d Mario is possible I’ve played around with making it in unity3d and the old world crate editor.

A real 3d Mario is A lot like minecraft. The problem is shuggy does know how to use these tools. He should by now though. Yet the loops kid asthetic from Mario 3 is not really shared with the current Mario galaxy producer.
Just look at ninja gaiden the first game that wowed us with cut scenes. The Ned was way better than the arcade version because two different teams did them. The new ng games try hard to be like both of those but are almost unplayable.

People need to know what they did wrong when they loose and given a choice to try some thing new or even try the same thing and enjoy their death with laughter.

I remember some of my deaths in Mario and quake 3 to this day.
Quake 3 is so weird because it reminds me of mario so much. There is no story and itsthe only fps where jumping matters a lot and the jumping was really really fun. Oh and the Mario speed effect works in this gaming making you jump farther.

Just like Mario people still play quake3. A lot and actually halo tried it’s best to copy quake but left out the fun part and added oooohhhhh graphics and a halo.

I loved joust also actualy that was my first atari game. I was playing that while every one else got Mario lol.

What I noticed was joust was way harder and it did not really end lol. Yet I played it till I wanted a break. When games came with endings I was pissed. I would say man the sega cd is going to give us 50 level games again lol not knowing designers where wanting to be artist rather than level or game designers.

It’s like wanting to be the puzzelmaster on NPR lol. Completely nerdy lol but fun. Well I know you get a lot of these rants but maybe I’ll send you a well structure response to the things your posting.
AR gaming can bring back hasbro toys and Nes game play if done right.
3d isn’t needed unless my dream of deep 2d games that let you go into the background and back again happen. Think metroid that is foreground and background based rather than just vertical. The same with Mario but with an arcade intensity.

Also Mario had a slower pace to arcade gaming. They trained you first then got you use to during them made you get crazy good at timing.
Not sure what the cafe is going to bring but I know I could make a AR like tempest or tron game with a screen in the controller. I mean you could make a SD tv 3d that way.

Also this extra power is needed to do a snes level of arcade speed and beauty on a console. There is no reason ghouls and ghost, strider the Nes version, advance wars version of r-type, Mario 6, a real bionic commando and a game that mimics metroid but is called exilur nova or some thing lol.
The need another super c like ds on the new console. Nintendo need to revive their arcade cabinet biz also. It could also be a content push point where people don’t have Internet or fast Internet.

Well I’ll stop here but believe me there is more and nintendo direction isn’t bad they just need better competition. Which is why I’m about to go to school lol.

You found jumping and moving around in Unreal Tournament to be difficult? That is odd since so many of the stages were based on that. Quake 3 is still popular but so is Unreal Tournament. To this day, I still cannot tell which game is more popular: UT or Quake 3.

You may already know this but James Cameron, director of Titanic, Terminator 2, Aliens, etc. was a trucker driver. When Star Wars came out, he quit his truck driving to go make movies. So who knows? Maybe your future will be like his.
