There was a survey done on the Japanese to find out why they do not wish to buy the 3DS. I want to know is whether the survey was a ‘fill out the blank’ or a ‘choose from the list below of what you feel is most true’. If it is a choose your answer, why not just have an option saying, ‘3D has no value to me’. Regardless, the spirit of that response is found in the feedback.
- 1. Price is high/waiting for a price drop(Price is only too high when the value is too low. This means people do not value the ‘3d innovation’ which is why 3DS seems ‘too expensive’. It is similar to the PS3 being ‘too expensive’ because people did not value the Blu-Ray and HD graphics.)
- 2. Satisfied by DS/DSi(If 3D had any value as 16-bit graphics once did, people would not be satisfied with DS.)
- 3. Worried about eye strain(3d not only lacks value, it is a liability on the consumer experience.)
- 4. Worried about getting sick from the screen(Isn’t this the same for number 3? It shows just how much people dislike the 3d.)
- 5. Few launch titles(3DS had a TON of launch titles with very big hits such as Nintendogs and Layton. There was also the built in software on the 3DS. The reason why people say there are ‘few launch titles’ is that they are actually saying ‘there are few launch titles I want to play’. The 3d ‘innovation’ isn’t making these launch titles interesting to the consumer.)
- 6. Will buy once a game I want is released(Isn’t this the same as 5?)
- 7. Satisfied by cell phone and smartphone games(According to analysts, this should be number 1. Yet, it is way down the list. Cellphones and smartphones also do not have 3d output which probably makes them have more value to consumers.)
- 8. Satisfied by PSP(PSP also does not have 3d output.)
- 9. The battery is weak(And why is the battery weak? 3d output.)
- 10. It’s heavy and I don’t feel like carrying it with me(And why is it heavy? 3d output.)
- 11. Can’t play Game Boy Advance games(DSi cannot play GBA games either.)
- 12. The color I want isn’t available(Hahaha)
- 13. Can’t play Game Boy games(This is a strange complaint. The DS couldn’t play Gameboy games either.)
- 14. I’ll save my money for NGP, thank you very much(NGP won’t have 3d output at least.)
- 15. Waiting for a version with a larger screen(People waiting for the revision. This is what Nintendo gets for pumping out so many versions of the DS.)
- 16. Because you can’t move your DSi Points over(Some people are too invested in the DSi products.)
- 17. The buttons layout looks hard to use(This is a pre-Wii complaint. Ever since the addition of the analog stick, game controllers began looking scary. The 3DS resembles the pre-Wii controller layout which makes it scary. To tell you truth, I find its controller layout awful as well.)
- 18. No Famicom/NES in the Virtual Console(Yay for the Retro gamer!)
- 19. The zoom view for DS games is hard on the eyes(Ouch. The DS ‘backwards compatibility’ sucks according to this.)
- 20. Waiting until my friend buys it(Idiot bandwagon person here.)
