Email: Wii U is destroying my enthusiasm for games

Mr. Malstrom,

First off, I’d like to thank you for writing all these articles and thoughts on video games and business. They’ve been throughly entertaining and even though I don’t agree with you all the time, your articles do remind me to hear what other people have to say.

Now about Wii U: The console really scares me. There is zero reason for me to get this console. It is a console that is interested in pushing content I am not interested in. I’m a very open minded gamer that started playing during the N64 era. I own and love my Wii games. I own and love my Xbox 360 games( I really just love Halo, but I understand that it’s not the greatest thing since sliced bread). This is hard for me because with Microsoft trying to push Kinect and dumb kid games and Nintendo pushing 3D (which I don’t have much love for), this might be the first time since I’ve played games that I might skip out on a generation and just play the games I already have. At this point, we can only hope that when Nintendo’s back is finally against the wall (when 3D fails and the company is in dire shape) that they will finally see the error of their ways and go back to making games we care about. Do you think that will happen? Or is Nintendo destined to be disrupted and destroyed?

Thanks for listening.

Do American newspapers care their content is sending their papers to certain destruction?

Do Japanese game developers care their march of ‘creativity’ has removed the floor from their companies ensuring the next generation of Japanese game developers will not have the same opportunities as the current one?

Luigi’s Mansion didn’t sell. Miyamoto just said he wanted to make another one ‘just because’. Any questions?
