Email: Capcom learns its lesson

After that Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D fiasco (the “you can’t delete your save file” one), Capcom has had a change of heart.  It is now saying that it won’t implement this feature again because of the massive consumer backlash:

I can’t believe it.  A company is actually listening to customers.  I wish Nintendo would do this.

A better word than ‘listening’ would be ‘serving’. While this email is totally unrelated to the previous one, note how identical the theme is? The gaming market shapes itself. Every time a marketer, game developer, or Industry Man decides to bring out his sheers and scissors to ‘trim’ and shape the market, like a gardener does to his hedge, the market retaliates. In the case of the Atari Crash, the retaliation is extremely fierce. It is like the hedge grows arms, steals the blade, and slashes the gardener.

This is a recurring lesson throughout the history of gaming. When will people learn?
