Super Mario 3dland is not a Mario game

The story of Mario games is, of course, very simple. At its core, the princess has been kidnapped and you have to rescue her. What we strive to do is to find a good balance of presenting a certain amount of narrative in the game without hindering the gameplay experiences.

What the hell is this? Every time a developer says the word ‘narrative’, I know the game isn’t about the game. I try not to talk about Super Mario 3dLand because the game makes me too angry.

No one asked for this game. And no one wants it. What should have been made is another NSMB game but making it far more of a multiplayer experience, not more crappy 3d Mario.

NSMB DS sold around 25 million copies. And it sold hardware big time. Where is the Mario game for the 3DS?

Just because it has ‘Super Mario’ in the title, doesn’t make Super Mario 3dland a Mario game. The masses will not accept it. The only reason why 3d Mario sold on the consoles was based heavily on its production values (Galaxy games even got an orchestra soundtrack). This 3d Mario will be disappointing even to fans of 3d Mario because of the lack of these ‘production efforts’ with the move to 3d Mario on the handheld.

Why is Miyamoto such a jerk? Why not give us the game everyone wants with more Super Mario Brothers? Why is the jerk trying to replace 2d Mario with 3d Mario when, time after time, the market keeps rejecting it? Why does Miyamoto have such a problem over this?

You know what? I don’t care. The unhappy business side of Nintendo will not allow Iwata and Miyamoto to run the company into the ground. One thing I am hoping for is for the business side to pull the Mario series away from Miyamoto’s control.

Ever since Miyamoto became more of an ‘executive’, Nintendo games have gone to the crapper. He keeps trying to focus on things the market doesn’t want (such as more 3d) and doesn’t focus on things the market clearly does want (such as more Super Mario Brothers). And what is Iwata but a giant rubber-stamp for Miyamoto? Miyamoto’s wings needs to be clipped. This guy isn’t fit to have a decision leader role and should remain the software employee he was.

How many more of these ridiculous ‘Convert 2d Mario to 3d Mario’ games is Nintendo going to make? And how many times must we, the market, ram it right back up at Miyamoto?

Nintendo would sell more games if they stopped fighting the market.
