Retailer: If 3DS doesn’t start selling when Super Mario 3dland and Mario Kart 7 hits, it’s “definitely dead”

Ouch. Now we know why that third party company wants to remain unidentified.

Remember, folks, we are talking about a NINTENDO HANDHELD. This was unthinkable months ago.

“However, a representative from another major third-party publisher – who wished to remain anonymous – was less enthusiastic, emphasising the importance of first-party titles like Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land to the future of the platform.

“So far retail is not euphoric,” he said. “The fact that 3DS-software is still treated with great caution in the initial and repeat orders, we see that retail waits for the commercial development.”

“It will be important to watch 3DS when the big Nintendo-titles are out there on holiday season. If the machine does not sell then, it´s definitely dead.”

I’m sure Nintendo really wishes Super Mario 3dLand was a 2d Mario game about now (2d Mario games ALWAYS sell). But nooo, Miyamoto has some attitude problem with 2d Mario games. So we got a Mario game that no one asked for and no one is really excited about.

One thing that cannot be denied with the 3DS is the increase cost of making games on it. This isn’t the DS. Now, every game must be in ‘3d’ because Nintendo thinks ‘3d is amazing! OMG!’ It’s pretty hilarious to watch third parties abandon Nintendo’s handheld.

And the 3DS is easier to sell than the Wii U. The only third party support for the Wii U is going to be ports of old games from the HD Twins.
