Dragon Quest Shock

Square Enix stock plunges 11% in a day. Everything centers around the Dragon Quest ‘shock’.

But no, it cannot be due to Dragon Quest X being a MMO. Oh no. It is anything but that. The people on the game message forums are informing us that it is something other than that, anything but that.

What doesn’t make sense in the story is why would there be any reaction to Dragon Quest X being a Nintendo exclusive… a fact everyone has known for quite some time? Most likely because the reporting doesn’t get it right.

Investors in game companies understand the games, contrary to our wizards on the gaming forum with anime avatars. However, the reporting on investors actions has always been spotty.

Sometimes, a spade is just a spade. It’s highly probable that Square Enix investors understand what Dragon Quest is and what it means and their reaction parallels the gamers’ reaction over there.
