3DS Owners Need Battery For 3DS Expansion

Interesting how it wasn’t announced at the conference. I guess Nintendo is embarrassed by it. I wonder if we’ll get an Iwata Asks out of it.

And now for my favorite part…

This will appear on the 3DS Expansion compatible games. I think the 3DS with its expansion looks ridiculous. But there is something about the above icon that makes it even more funny. It just looks so ridiculous. Couldn’t they just showed two slide pads? Why show the entire 3DS in the icon?

What this shows is that the expansion is nothing at all similar to the Classic Controller Pro that shipped with Monster Hunter 3G. I wouldn’t be surprised if that line of thinking is being pushed by our Nintendo marketers trying to make sure the online discussion goes the way they want. It is so obvious that the second stick will be in a revision which will be coming out soon (the price cut was, in part, to remove get rid of the old 3DS systems).

I can understand people being reluctant to believe in the rumor of a second stick. I found it hard to believe too. A second stick expansion to a handheld? But once it was confirmed, only someone in absolute denial or working for Nintendo marketing would entertain the notion that a revision of the 3DS with two sticks wasn’t coming.

I can’t believe the expansion requires a battery. Is the battery included? It better be. When I bought my Gameboy, it came with batteries (and headphones too. And Tetris).

Since the expansion works with IR, what if there is a communication error? I don’t know much about these technologies, but since the 3DS is portable, it stands to reason that it might be brought somewhere or moved in a way to disrupt the IR. What happens then? Oh Nintendo.
