Spacecraft, cities, airplanes, computers, and other things are not products of the biological process. They are products of the mind of man, not the body of man. The progress of Mankind was essentially stagnate until just centuries ago. It came when Man began separating the mind from the body, the imagination from the biology. There is a reason why the West colonized the world while Asia and Africa did not. Nietzsche would call this an Apollonian force.
But it was Columbus’s imagination that made him sail and accidentally arrive at the New World. Not his biological process.
It was George Washington’s imagination at Valley Forge with watching the play Cato that turned a Declaration of Independence into a reality. Not his biological process.
It was Neil Armstrong’s imagination that placed him inside a space shuttle to go to the moon. Not his biological process.
I am for people opening their minds and generating thought. Therefore, I am against people closing their minds and retarding their critical thought processes. Two individuals, or rather the generalized memes or themes, that have closed more minds and retarded more critical thought processes more than anything else are Darwin and Freud.
The stagnation of thought by people idolizing Freud is obvious. Not everything we do is an unconscious sexual desire. If we ask, “Why is a skyscraper interesting?” someone drunk on Freud would say because it looks like an erect penis. This is both boring and intellectually stillborn. There are other ideas but someone drunk on Freud wouldn’t consider them because they think they already have the conclusion to the question. But they haven’t begun to ask the questions.
The stagnation of thought by people drunk on Darwin can also be easily illustrated. Imagine a young man frustrated by women (this includes like 100% of young men). The young man will attempt to stuff all his women problems into a Darwin box. “You see,” he says, “it is all Darwinian. Women evolved to like the stronger male who gets the most resources, etc. etc. etc.” The reason why young men say this is because the actual truth is far more horrifying. It is so horrifying that I’ve seen grown men just commit suicide within days of realizing it.
Shakespeare made Hamlet say, “There is more things found in Heaven and Earth than is found in your philosophy, Horatio,” when Horatio was saying these ghosts in front of him could not exist. Shakespeare says this because he is a genius. He knows how much we do not understand about Nature. But this isn’t to exude all biological processes. “There was not a philosopher who could endure the toothache patiently,” he says. Obviously, our minds work better when we have food in our stomach, had sleep, clean, and stress free. His last quote in the Tempest says, “We are the stuff that dreams are made on.” We must focus less on the ‘stuff’ and more on the dream.
There are identical twins where one has a great talent while the other doesn’t. How is this possible? Genetically, they are identical so there is no difference in the biological process. They were raised in the same household so they were nurtured the same way. So why does one have a talent the other doesn’t? “That person just has the gift,” says a reader. What did you say?
Imagine explaining the evaporation of water to a backwards chieftain. You would sound absurd talking about the particles of water going up to the sky and all. The chieftain’s answer is far more logical: “Because the spirits drink it.” The chieftain does not search for the actual answer because he is content with the ‘logical answer’. Nature is not logical. People drunk on Darwin do so because it sounds logical to them, and they stop searching with their mind.
There are many things that do not have logical answers. Why do many oil fields refill themselves? Why does the wind speed increase on planets further away from the sun? If all Earth life is to have come from feeding off the energy of the sun, why is there so much sophisticated life at the vents at the bottom of the ocean and underneath the crust?
Science does not have these answers. We are in the year 2011. In the year 2111, perhaps they will have some answers. We’ll never live to find out why. So let us respect the mystery of Nature more and realize we’re not as half as smart as we think we are.
