Email: I’m glad SGU killed the series

I loved (and still do love) the Stargate movie. But SG-1 really sucked. I don’t care how good the ratings were. The plot stunk, the acting/scripting or both were crap, all of the worlds were uninteresting. Atlantis wasn’t any better in fact it might have been worse. Those shows totally didn’t live up to the quality of the movie. SGU didn’t lived up to the movie either but at least it wasn’t a total embarrassment.

When the new Battlestar Galactica came on it just made SG-1 look even crummier. It had way higher production, better actors and better story. I don’t want every show to be a soap opera anymore than you do but I find those are the better quality shows now. I would love to see a show where it had good actors and story with a more action/adventure focus. For your sake, I hope this was a joke email. Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica was a ratings disaster especially after the first season. Reruns of Enterprise were getting higher ratings than new BSG episodes. The only reason why it lasted as long as it did was because the Sci-Fi channel was using it as a ‘prestige show’… meaning it was to attract talent to the channel from other places. I remember Ron Moore’s wife in the forums trying to defend the show as a prestige show. Most BSG watchers were in denial about the quality of the show due to the constant hooks (what happens next) until it became clear there was no true conclusion. The ending with angels really woke people up. BSG essentially ended Ron Moore’s high profile career.

The Stargate shows, at least, created and maintained an audience. The ratings and its reruns exceeded expectations at Showtime and at the Sci-Fi channel.

Anyone who attacks a television show that somehow lasts a decade and creates spin-off TV shows pretty much doesn’t know what they’re talking about. It’s like attacking Dr. Who… and that series is like eternal.
