Nintendo Platform, a way to always play my Nintendo games no matter what. Think of it as a Nintendo provided emulator with the appearance of an integrated digital games store and game launcher.
If investors demand Nintendo to expand then I say do it that way. Let me buy Super Mario Bros and be able to play it on a Wii, DS, Laptop, or Android phone. Bundle the official controller drivers with platform. Let game saves, settings and other data transfer effortlessly via the web or the controller like the earlier idea.
The console itself would become the premier experience. Despite technological progress, connecting pcs and cell phones to tvs is not mainstream. The console should be an everlasting tank of Nintendo goodness that people feast at to sate their gaming appetites with no distractions and with their best available sound and video equipment. It would play the current generation offerings exclusively since accurate emulation is hardware intensive (see bsnes)..
Why let me be waste time on Angry Birds when I can jump into Warioware. Why deal with knock off Mario when I can have the real thing? Why use emulators and roms when it should be simpler to invest in Nintendos platform while receiving a better experience than I would get anywhere else.
Make the gamecube ad true, “Even when you’re not playing it, you’re playing it.”
The Nintendo of the Colecovision days would have done this. It is impossible with today’s Nintendo.
Nintendo defines its business as the integration of hardware and software. It would be like asking Apple to release its operating system to be used on non-Apple hardware. Apple will never do it as Nintendo will never do it.
