Email: Apparent hacking issue with Diablo 3…

Hi Malstrom,

Hopefully other people have already emailed you about this, I just saw it on a message forum now: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/930659-diablo-iii/62871833 and https://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5149539239

I’m not exactly sure on the details but apparently in public games people can view your session ID and copy it, bypassing a password/authenticator, and then sell off your items.Nope, there is no hacking issue. Account theft by keyloggers and all is a common issue with World of Warcraft, and it falls outside Blizzard’s control. Getting an authenticator, which adds an additional layer of security, essentially guarantees security. This issue is also common with bank services.

One thing I am concerned about is how some legitimate concerns appear to be hijacked from others pushing a form of F.U.D. Because Diablo 3 was so popular, the servers melted. People were unhappy about the server issues. Yet, some tried to hijack the issue to be about online DRM which was completely unrelated to the situation. And with the issue of some Diablo fans, who haven’t had the experience of WoW’s security, who are legitimately surprised their accounts have been stolen seems like it is being hijacked to be about Blizzard’s servers being hacked. It is not true. Blizzard even went so far to state it was not true.

It is lonely at the top. When a company is successful, the hyenas appear. I cannot tell whether or not the FUD is generated by emo gamers or something with more organization. I’m assuming the former.

And the art style of Diablo 3 is fantastic!

Above: The haters were wrong. The art style of Diablo 3 is extremely good.
