Nikkei says new large screen 3DS to come out, Wii U to be 30,000 yen ($300)

Source.

The Wii U will sell at the $300 price. I don’t expect Wii numbers, but it will sell. Hopefully Nintendo sweetens the pot by putting in cool games with the hardware… something better than crappy ‘catch’ Mii games. I really wish Nintendo would leverage their old arcade games into the hardware bundle. No one will buy them separately (Donkey Kong, Balloon Fight, Mario Brothers) so they would be really cool to put in the system and to demo playing a game on the controller but not on the TV.

Many people have been waiting for a 3DS revision. We’ll see how it goes. Hopefully the issue of power and top screen scratches are addressed. If it is bundled with Super Mario Land 5, then it becomes very tempting to get.

Ideally, the price should be $150 but I expect $200. $200 just seems too expensive still. And the games need to go back to $30. This $40 games needs to stop.

The economy (anywhere in the world) is in a very different spot today than in 2006. And it may get worse. Nintendo should bet on economic decline everywhere and make a console’s price point that can thrive in such decline. Something like the Wii and DS would while the PSP, PS3, Xbox 360, when they launched, would have gotten ran over. People are not economically better off today than they were in 2006.
