Microsoft and Sony lose a third party game to PC

The post title is how the story should be headlined in a perfect world. Since the Microsoft and Sony consoles (especially the Microsoft one) share the same exact architecture as the PC, every PC game not on these consoles should be declared as ‘games lost’ as it is not far from the truth.

I did not hear about Epic making a PC exclusive game until today. It shows how much news I miss. Many people say it will be a F2P game or something like a browser game. But Epic’s revenue comes mostly through selling the Unreal engine. Gears of War was mostly about showing off Unreal Engine 3. I expect this to be demoing Unreal Engine 4 which means it will be a graphics powerhouse game. An Unreal Tournament, which still has big demand, would be easy to show off the engine without making a ton of content. Unreal and Unreal Tournament showed off Unreal Engine 1. Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 showed off Unreal Engine 2. Gears of War 1,2,3 showed off Unreal Engine 3. An Unreal Tournament game showing off Unreal Engine 4 is not unrealistic.

The game has to be exclusive to PC because it is in Epic’s interest to show off the engine. The best way to do that is on PC as next gen Xbox and PlayStation will be behind current PC gaming hardware. If our friends, the Hardcore Gamers, are having trouble understanding, the shitty console hardware is to PC as the Wii was to the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3. If you want to make the best PC games, the PC is the place to do it.

I’m hoping the PC game company-on-console was a fad due to the console acting as Digital Rights Management. Perhaps a solution has been found for PC gaming which will encourage pc game companies to make their games for pcs again.

Here is a clip of Unreal Tournament 99 menu music just to get you in the mood.
