Email: Why should you be excited about NSMB 2?

NSMB2 is shaping up to be a 2D version of 3D Mario. With no lives and
the only feature mentioned basically being the goal of collecting a
million coins, it seems as though you’ll need to collect enough coins
to pass a stage, not merely get to the finish line. It’s basically
turning the whole game into a sprawling scavenger hunt. Something
different about it from the 3D Marios is that it’s a scavenger hunt
that doesn’t involve puzzles.

I can understand getting excited about the power-ups, but if the game
is limiting the way you play along with the new power-ups, it’s
disappointing overall.

You make a good point. 3d Land was Nintendo intentionally putting 2d Mario gameplay into 3d Mario. Could NSMB 2 be Nintendo intentionally trying to put 3d Mario gameplay into 2d Mario? This might explain why everything seems off.

Regardless, the straw that is breaking the camel’s back is the DLC announced for NSMB2. This can be done with an editor in five minutes. Even Wrecking Crew had an editor on it. What a rip-off. This and the Mii-verse, Nintendo just sees 2d Mario fans as nothing more than tools. I think I’m done with Nintendo.
