Email: Still hearing about Skyrim?

Hey Sean,

I remember a while back you were posting all these glowing letters about Skyrim and how Zelda should be just like it. Well, I’m guessing you’re not getting many of those any more, because it turns out, in a shocking twist of events that should have surprised no one, Skyrim is garbage. Just like every other Bethesda RPG, you start out with this massive, unparalleled feeling of freedom and openness. That you know about. Then, after you’ve been into it a while, you start to notice something…the game is so buggy that it’s borderline unplayable at times. The quests are repetitive. The math behind the RPG system is completely broken. The villages and dungeons eventually start to look the same. The controls are cumbersome. Selling your loot is unbelievably tedious. Sure, a lot of people still love it, but they all admit that it’s in spite of the games many, many problems, which are bad enough to cause other people to give up and quit playing.

I have never regretted not buying a Bethesda game during the post-release hype. It’s just another problem-saturated game that the Industry lavished with glowing reviews because it’s a marquee series by a major developer, and hey, the world is really really big.

Considering there is no competition to decent RPGs at the moment, any decent RPG at this point will be considered ‘the greatest thing ever’.
