3DS still selling at a loss

Erroneous reports going around saying the 3DS is now profitable. Nope! Here’s the story.

Now let’s have a conversation with Captain Idiot. Captain Idiot starts off saying:

“Dedicated handheld gaming hardware is dead. OMG, look at those smartphones and tablet sales.”

“So apparently betting the entire handheld line on 3d, even naming the console with 3d in it, had no affect?”

“None! 3DS is equal to DS, Gameboy, and all that. No differences with the 3DS and DS whatsoever!”

“Not the higher price tag? Not the higher price tag for the software?”

“Nope and nope!”

“When Nintendo focused on 3d with the Virtual Boy, N64, and Gamecube, they hurt their sales. Hell, there hadn’t been a 2d Super Mario Brothers for the home console in nearly twenty years. So none of that hurt Nintendo’s sales?”

“It was entirely due to Sony! That’s right.”

“But you don’t say the PS3’s decline from the PS2 was due to the Wii. Everyone assigns blame to the PS3 price tag, lack of games, etc. etc.”

“Shut up!”

“And how can anyone say handheld computers, which are tablets and smartphones, affecting dedicated game handhelds when no one is posting game usage or game sales for those tablets and smartphones. It is more likely those tablets and smartphones are being used for non-game purposes such as surfing the Internet or watching movies or listening to music.”

“Shut up! Dedicated gaming hardware is dead!”

“Just like home computers destroyed dedicated home consoles?”

“God, you are so stupid! Shut up already!”

And that concludes our conversation with Captain Idiot. Allow him to parade the Gaming Message Forums in peace.
