… to either owning a future Nintendo portable, or to Iwata as president.
First of all, that interview is not new. It was already covered on this site.
Second, Siliconera’s story is useful as an example of taking something completely out of context. These interviewers are trying to get these executives to diss a key feature in a product they currently have on the market. I remember countless interviewers trying to get a Nintendo executive to diss motion control or even the touch screen for the DS. If they wish to keep their jobs, they aren’t going to downplay a feature on a product that is currently on the market.
Iwata has made it clear that Nintendo is shifting its focus away from 3d and more toward Internet. Of course, 3d will be a ‘minor feature’ just like the Connect 24/7 became a ‘minor feature’ for the Wii.
Nintendo’s next moves won’t be ‘more 3d’. Unlike the days of the N64 or Gamecube, Nintendo cannot afford it in today’s world economy. Nintendo couldn’t choose to keep pushing 3d even if they wanted to. They have to sell product NOW.
