I am SO glad you opened up a GOG account! They have some truly awesome games at awesome prices with great bonuses. It is definitely the first recommendation I make to ANYONE interested in affordable PC games.
What’s nice is that they’ve optimized these games for newer operating systems. I have Windows XP installed on Boot Camp on my mac, and they’ve pretty much worked fine with a few exceptions. I haven’t tried troubleshooting for those games yet as I don’t have much time to spend, but I imagine there must be some fix for those issues.
I’m hoping and praying for Apogee games. It would be AMAZING to be able to play those games again. I’d also love the Commander Keen games to be on there. I don’t know if the rights holders will ever agree to put those up, but damn they should. I refuse to buy them on Steam. I personally don’t really like Steam very much at all (unlike all my friends, who for some reason love it), so the only time I ever buy anything on there is during a sale for like $3 or something.
I can only imagine how GOG will expand its library going forward. I cannot WAIT for more games to be added on there. If they keep it up, I’ll have almost no use for Steam at all.
Enjoy Tyrian 2000! I’ve been trying to get it to work for awhile, but that is one of the games I’m having trouble with. Some sort of error with DOSBox.

There is so much hypocrisy concerning gamers and Steam. Gamers complain about games that are required to be online to be played (either a fair or unfair complaint). But Steam requires to be turned on and be online in order to play your games (I know there is an offline mode but it doesn’t last long). And if Steam bans you or something, you lose access to all your games. Why isn’t that considered a far greater threat than a game that wants to be online? I think people are hesitant to look at Steam critically because they are already so heavily invested in the platform. It is no different than a console fanboy refusing to see the negative in that console because he already has a game library. So, of course, his console is ‘awesome’ and every other console is ‘horrible’. Steam has generated the same type of ‘fanboy’ that used to only be on consoles.
Why isn’t Tyrian 2000 working for you? I am running Windows XP on this computer, and it works just fine for me. Perhaps it is your EEVIL Mac hardware. :)
