I think so. If people don’t have strong ideas or strong passion, it is fine for a series like Metroid or Zelda to take a break for a generation. In their place should be new games that do the same job.
If Nintendo said, “Metroid is going to take a break this generation. We don’t know where to go with it next,” people would be very sad. However, they would not be sad if Nintendo then said, “Even though Metroid is going on a break, we are going to make 2d Metroid-like game that is entirely a new IP.”
It’s not the games we want. but the jobs those games do.
