Some of the Mario World emails are very elaborate, it’ll take me a while to post them. One has like a dozen pictures. I tend to write this blog when I’m half asleep so I know I won’t have the energy to put them up here in one swoop. They’re coming…
My hopes for the Wii U are really modest. I expect a $299 price tag. The only thing I hope is that I don’t have to pay $60 for NSMB U because we’ve never paid that much for a 2d Mario. NSMB seems like a franchise as if EA made 2d Mario.
-I insist my Wii U not explode. Do you hear me, Nintendo? I am sick to death of game consoles exploding or burning out. Shame, shame on the Xbox 360 and, to a lesser extent, the PlayStation 3. I want game journalists to grill Nintendo reps on whether or not the hardware will explode and, if it does, what are we to do about it? I want someone to look Reggie Fils-Aime in the eye and ask, “Will your game console have the same hardware problems that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 had?” This is not a trivial question. After last generation, I think every console manufacturer should be hammered on making statements about the console’s build quality.
-I don’t want to rebuy all my Virtual Console games. I know Reggie Fils-Aime has said Nintendo is moving to an account system and you can move your VC games over. But I won’t believe it until I see it.
-I want the E-Shop to not suck. My game playing with the Wii eventually turned the Wii into a Retro Console of Many Systems that also played Netflix. I expect something similar to happen with the Wii U. I’m not really interested in the ‘hardcore’ $60 games. My tastes are more in the arcade and smaller games. It’s all about the E-shop to me. I don’t want this ‘one game a week’ bullshit. I want many games to choose from. I should be able to get classic games like… Pac-Man. Because maybe I might be in the mood for some Pac-Man. What I fear is a manipulative E-shop that tries to use Mii-verse against you. All I want is a large selection of good games. Luckily, the prior NES/SNES/Genesis/etc. libraries have all that. If things are account bound, then I won’t have to rebuy all those games and can buy the new stuff.
-I want the GamePad to play Virtual Console games. Why wouldn’t it do this?
I don’t think my expectations are very high. I fear Nintendo will fail them by putting up an E-Shop that has no games and sell exploding Wii Us.
