People don’t want to wait, but you have to. You cannot tell much from a couple weeks of sales. And you cannot tell much during a holiday sale of a console being out for a couple of months. February NPD will truly show the momentum or lack of it.
The Game Industry sales are down 11% from this time last year. Pachter is trying to blame Nintendo which is absurd since the Wii U is still supply restrained (at least for the first few weeks). After paying $300+ for a new console, how much software can anyone afford?
The reason why the Game Industry is down is because there are less games out this year than in the previous year and that Halo 4 and COD are not selling what they did last time.
Speaking of that 60% attach rate of Super Mario U to the Wii U (so far), someone better not tell Iwata that the Wii U is just a box people bought to get to Mario. He doesn’t like it when people think of his consoles as ‘just a box’ we pay to get to a game. But it’s true. No matter how attractive that box is, whether or not the box has Miiverse and happy faces, it is just a box and nothing but a box. It is market myopia to think otherwise.
