Well, it’s here. The 3DS is going to get Gen 6 pokemon games. Generically titled “X and Y” versions. They haven’t ran out of colors, but the version titles refer to the shapes of the main legendary pokemon. Odd.
There’s something that bothers me about the announcement though.
1. This is the shortest amount of time that one generation of pokemon games could move from one to the next (to my knowledge). Gen 5 only lasted roughly for a year or so (technically it’s still going, but still, it seems so soon). I mean, the transition from Gen 1-2 and then to 3 were all pretty short, but they took more time to develop Gen 4 and 5. 6 Seems… a little early. Could be rushed for all I know.
2. The game’s main gimmick is it will be a fully 3D pokemon game, which isn’t really innovative as Pokemon games have been in 3D before.
3. The designs look atrocious so far. I can’t express how awful those starters look. All I can assume is that Gamefreak was probably pressured to make new pokemon because I can’t even see the appeal in them.
4. It’s on a device I do not want to pay cash for.
5. For some reason, Iwata is the one who announced the game. Usually, it’s a tv show called “Pokemon Sunday” that announces new games. But this is a worldwide announcement. That seems a tad abnormal to me.
I don’t know. Maybe I’m jumping up over nothing. The 3DS could use a pokemon game people care about as it needs a serious sales boost, but I don’t know. I have seen a lot of Nintendo franchises ruined back during the Gamecube and Wii eras, and it would kill me if Pokemon was mishandled in any way that could tarnish the franchise. It will sell, no doubt about it, but… I don’t know what to make of this. What are your thoughts of this?
I don’t have any thoughts on Pokemon. I’ve never played a Pokemon game before. I am getting many Pokemon emails today so I’ll let your email speak for them. You seem to be very familiar with Pokemon.
